Frequently Asked Questions

Patients often have questions regarding joint pain, arthritis, and autoimmune rheumatic diseases. The following Frequently Asked Questions address common concerns and provide clear information about diagnosis, treatment options, and long-term care, helping patients better understand their condition and make informed healthcare decisions.

Who is a rheumatologist and when should you consult one?

A rheumatologist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats joint pain, arthritis, autoimmune and connective tissue diseases. You should consult a rheumatologist if you experience joint pain, swelling, or prolonged stiffness.

Is joint pain always caused by arthritis?

No. Joint pain can also be caused by vitamin deficiencies, infections, muscle-related problems, or autoimmune diseases, not just arthritis.

What is the difference between Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease, whereas Osteoarthritis occurs due to age-related wear and tear of the joints. The treatment approach for both conditions is different.

Can rheumatic diseases be completely cured?

Some rheumatic diseases cannot be completely cured, but with proper treatment and regular follow-up, they can be effectively controlled and patients can lead a normal life.

Are long-term medications safe?

Yes. When taken under specialist supervision along with regular monitoring and tests, long-term medications are generally safe.

Can lifestyle changes and diet help control joint pain?

Yes. A healthy diet, regular exercise, weight management, stress control, and adequate sleep can significantly help in reducing joint pain and inflammation.
