Vasculitis (Takayasu Arteritis)

Takayasu Arteritis is a rare form of chronic vasculitis that causes inflammation of large blood vessels, particularly the aorta and its major branches. This inflammation leads to thickening, narrowing, or blockage of the arteries, resulting in reduced blood flow to vital organs. It commonly affects young women and may present with nonspecific early symptoms such as fever, fatigue, weight loss, and muscle pain, followed by more specific signs like limb claudication, reduced pulses, blood pressure differences between arms, and neurological symptoms. Early diagnosis and timely treatment with immunosuppressive therapy are essential to control inflammation, prevent vascular complications, and preserve organ function.
